No Serial Number?

Some workstations offer nothing usable: no monitor with a readable serial number, no dock that identifies itself, only devices with placeholder serials. Such a workstation cannot be identified — and there is a simple remedy.

Add an identity with a USB stick

• Plug a small mini USB stick into the monitor or the docking station of the workstation — not into the notebook, since it has to stay at the desk.
• The stick carries a serial number of its own, which is all the sensor needs.
• Pair the workstation with that stick as described in Linking Devices.
